Laboratory of alexander brodsky “architecture through etching”
About the laboratory
This autumn, the laboratory of the artist and architect Alexander Brodsky begins its work based on the etching workshop of ILAS MIU.
Laboratory’s area of work is connected with paper architecture — architectural projects that cannot be implemented in life, but can be imagined and implemented on paper.
Etching is a complex and painstaking technique that allows you to interact with the material. The picture is applied to the metal, then treated with varnish and acid, and then printed on paper using a special machine, giving it volume and breathing new life into it.
The laboratory participants will go all the way from learning about the simplest techniques of etching to creating a collective project and a whole series of exhibition works under the guidance of Alexander Brodsky and other masters.
The course involves several parts:
- « Alphabet» — lectures where students learn the history of etching and get acquainted with the works of outstanding graphic artists
- «Elements» — introduction to etching technique: the masters will teach the lab participants to work with metal, process it, engrave it using various techniques, and acquaint them with different methods of etching and printing.
- «Projects» — laboratory participants will create personal and collective exhibition projects
